Malcolm John Turnbull was born at Princess Mary Maternity Hospital, in Jesmond, Newcastle on January 30th, 1929. A son for Thomas and Georgina Turnbull, and a cherished brother for Joyce. By 1931, at the age of 2, he was already attending fancy dress parties with Joyce, dressed as a mini Newcastle United player. This was a prelude for what became a lifelong passion for all sports, and he quickly excelled in both football and athletics. Around this time, the family lived at Millway, in Sherrif Hill, in Gateshead.
